Early Morning Reflections on Friendship

Written By: Ashtyn

April 13, 2008

Some people believe that God has a plan for all of us. Maybe that plan is life and maybe it’s not. Perhaps you are meant to do great things or maybe you are just supposed to be that guy who never really did anything like you were supposed to do it. I find it hard subscribing to this theory though I can see why others would believe it. When times of trouble arise it is easier to look to that higher power, whichever you subscribe to, and have faith that maybe whatever is going on, is happening for a reason.

I don’t believe in the Christian God. I think years of abuse by the church and the zealots that call themselves Christian but do not truly subscribe to the doctrine they supposedly believe in ruined that for me. However, in times of hardship I will speak to my Gods when I think no one else is listening. I will ask them why things are happening, even though I know that it is up to me to change them and not them. I do not speak to them seeking their help, but rather their guidance.

The thing the Gods have me wondering today is why some people are forced to get sick. My best friend’s husband has brain cancer. While he went into remission last summer, it has come back and they are saying that nothing can be done for him. Chemo may be able to extend his life, but the cancer will not go away this time or ever. They have been to the Cancer Treatment Centers and other places, but nothing can be done to help them according to all of these professionals.

In the meantime, he cannot work and she has to take care of the love of her life. She works, but is losing her job in a couple of days and will be jobless, as well. The savings are all gone and things look about as bad on paper as they can get. Yet this is the best person I know in the world. I doubt she even knows how much I love her. It’s sad because as her friend there is nothing I can do for her.

Could You Eat Your Friends?

Written By: Ashtyn

March 3, 2008

I love my friends. Really, I do. I have never thought of eating them (well, not in that way at least), but when I saw this quiz I couldn’t resist. After all, you never know when you’re going to be trapped in a blizzard and getting a little hungry.

So, according to this quiz I am 52% likely to eat my friends. I suppose that’s good, right? Better survival chance than not. Perhaps it’s lower because I would have to think about it before eating one of my friends. As opposed to the sick fucks that could just take a chunk out of my leg at the drop of the first snowflake.

Medicare letterIt’s funny how you can say one thing and a few moments later have a chance to see how naïve you really are. Just today Dom and I were talking about the government. I said that despite all the bad choices that have been made and as bad as things are, we are lucky. We are incredibly lucky because we have a home, a car, and all of our basic necessities met. Deep down, I know that’s not entirely true depending on how you look at it.

Dominick is in a wheelchair. We live in our own home that I purchased prior to us moving in together. This home is anything but wheelchair accessible. Dom is able to get in bed via a Hoyer lift and when in his wheelchair he can get in one room (the one his Hoyer goes into to put him in his seat) and out the door. A ramp is attached to the house that we had to beg to get put on, due to the fact that we don’t live three minutes away where it would have been free. The ramp, which was put on three summers ago, is now rotting slowly due to poor workmanship and will likely need to be replaced (out of pocket, no doubt) this summer.

The funny thing is that until today it never dawned on me that something truly bad could happen to us. We had plans to move and while it is taking some time to pay off our bills we have kept positive by talking about the things we will look for in a new home to ensure that the home is right for all of us. We have fantasized about the new home we will have when we can save the money we make to get something we want to live in. Right now, those days seem further off than ever and one little letter changed my entire perspective.

The Forums are Up!

Written By: Ashtyn

December 31, 2007

While we take the time to get things situated around here I just wanted to let all of the visitors know that the forums are up and ready to go. If you would like to chat, play games, or get to know more about me and the other visitors around here, that would be the place to start.

If you decide to visit, please stop by the Introductions forum and let us know that you’re with us. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

In the coming days, I will be adding some things to the forums, but if you have a topic you would like to discuss feel free to open a new thread. While I am sure that my assistants will be on the forums, as well, I will be answering posts on my own and will be reading the forums whenever I have the time.

New Changes in 2008

Written By: Ashtyn

December 29, 2007

I have received numerous emails asking me where people can find my books. Well, due to a publishing issue I have opted not to go with the former publisher that I was looking into publishing with originally. Despite the fact that I lack a publisher, you will still have a chance to read some of the Dominyn Series in 2008.

One thing I always tell my readers is that I write for the love of the story and not for the fame, money, or notoriety that can also come with being an author. As it is important to me to share this story with the world, in 2008 I will be offering a special break off book from the Dominyn Series in bi-weekly increments on this blog!

Every other week I will be putting up anywhere from 5 to 10 pages of the story. I will not be editing anything out and there will not be any catch. I just want you to have a chance to read this novel and fall in love with the characters in it. Eventually, I hope to find a publisher that will publish this and the other novels in the series. Until then, I am more than content in sharing this with my readers whether in book form or not.

How Much has Changed?

Written By: Ashtyn

December 26, 2007

Gone with the Wind Box ArtOn one of the top links on this blog, you can find fun facts about me. These facts mainly offer my favorite things. As I was sitting here I couldn’t help but think of how easy some of those things change. I don’t know if it’s just me or if everyone is like this, but the phases in my life often dictate what I consider to be a favorite thing. Sure, those things were favorites when I started this website, but are they still my favorite things now?

Let’s take a look and see if anything has changed and if so, I’ll be sure to list what would be a more appropriate answer for today.

Favorite Food: Steak (rare) or Stromboli

Today: That’s about right. No matter what my mood is, I still love steak and when it comes to Stromboli, well I could be suicidal and that would bring me off the windowsill. It has to be from Paliani’s though. I will miss them when we move.

Favorite Meal Type: Mexican

Today: Though it seems funny that my favorite foods are not in this category, when it comes to a type of food that I will almost always eat, it would have to be Mexican. I do love my enchiladas, burritos, Meximelts, nachos…well, you get the point.

Happiest Memory: The day that I decided to be with Dominick forever
Today: I recently got a job making a considerable amount of money. That ranked pretty high recently, but I still think Dominick and the thought of growing old with him ranks a little higher. Well…at least when I like him!

The Real Dominick Evans

Written By: Ashtyn

August 7, 2007

I have known Dominick for quite a few years. He’s one of my best friends. I am just trying to imagine what I can possibly write about him. He was the reason I am writing the Crimson Twilight Book Series. I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s my muse; maybe strength is a better word.

He has taught me that I am better than I think at the things I love to do. Knowing him, he’d probably tell you he’s the reason I have such nice grammar is because it improved when he started nagging at me during editing sessions.

Seriously though, Dominick is my best friend. His talent blows me away. It almost seems as if he can do anything, including much of what I want to do but am not as skilled. He is the singer, actor, director, and I am the writer. I suppose that’s what makes us such a good team. The creative energy that flows between us can be an amazing thing.
