I read something somewhere that struck me as odd the other day. It stated that a large percentage of men (far more than women) feel that Sarah Palin is not only qualified to be the vice-president, but also to lead this country.
Those are strong words.
I don’t even feel like Bush is qualified to run this country, so hearing that people think she is ready just baffles me. It got worse when my mother came home with tales from the gas station.
“Gas is nearly $4 a gallon,” she says “and an 80 year old man was pumping gas next to me and he said ‘this is why I want that woman in office. She supports energy.’”
She also supports drilling in ANWAR, the destruction of polar bears, and having Alaska secede from the United States. That’s not everything of course, but just some of her finer moments.
Could it be possible? Is it possible that many men are not thinking…well, at least not with their brains?
When I ask Palin supporters why they like her they often cannot give me a firm reason that is based on issues. Some things I do hear are:
“She’s good looking.”
“She knew she was having a Down Syndrome baby and kept it.”
“She’s a good mother”
My responses usually follow suit:
“Personally, I think she looks like a less intelligent Hitler in a dress.”
“Maybe we should nominate Bristol. I think she’s the real hero in this scenario.”
“So, she’s a woman that got pregnant out of high school and eloped (with the baby born eight months later) hoping no one would be able to do the math. She grows up to build a decent life that includes kids that follow in her footsteps by getting pregnant, but they presumably up the ante, and she handles her problems at home using shotgun weddings and the idea that she will become even busier (having less time at home) as vice-president. Oh, and while this is going on she is trying to dictate how we live, what we teach our children, and the books people read to ensure that we live the chaste life that her own family (her included) cannot seem to live themselves?”
